Soon, the first DVD player-recorder with Blu-Ray format

Panasonic announced that from November to sell Japan's first DVD recorder and player with Blu-ray, kicking off the new "format war" to become the next global standard.

With new products, called DMR-BW 200 and DMR-BR 100, which cost more than $ 2000, Panasonic will compete with the HD DVD format that Toshiba launched in July.

Blu-ray format is also promoted by Sony and Samsung Electronics of South Korea while Toshiba leads the NEC and Sanyo with the HD DVD format.

Recorders Blu-ray format allows HD recordings on discs and include the possibility of making copies of digital contents from HDD to DVD without loss of quality according to the manufacturer.

The new recorder will allow recording of six hours in high definition format discs 50 gigabytes of Blu-ray, plus two programs simultaneously stored on the hard disk. The HD DVD format, Toshiba, has been endorsed by Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard and Intel.
